Today Mayor Ed Murray issued the following statement on the ongoing negotiations between the Seattle School District and its teachers:
“Over the weekend, I spoke with Superintendent Nyland, School Board President Sherry Carr and Seattle Education Association President Jonathan Knapp. I encouraged all parties to come together to reach an agreement as quickly as possible so that kids can begin their school year. During those conversations, I offered to help and assist in any way I could.
“The City of Seattle is very committed to helping families scrambling to make alternative arrangements by extending before and after school programs at several community centers to all-day camps in the event of a strike.”
